Transition, career and training

This is how the transition to secondary school works

Your child will receive the decisive certificate in mid-April. The points determine the performance train A, E or P. If the points are not enough for the desired train, a voluntary entrance examination is possible.

Basis for allocation

This is how the points are calculated

German, mathematics and nature-human-society each count three times. English and French each count for one and a half times. Music, design and sport all count.

What applies to you?

Choose your situation

You will then see the appropriate path. The selection is not saved.

The certificate points are enough

Your child receives authorization for the corresponding service train. Discuss any open questions with the class teacher.

A higher train is aimed for

Children with qualifications for A or E can take the voluntary entrance examination for a higher level. The registration form comes from the teacher.

Compensation for disadvantages is necessary

Enclose a copy of the valid certificate with the planned measures when registering for the exam.

In that order

You can do that now

  1. 01

Wait for the transfer certificate in mid-April.

  2. 02

Have the points calculation explained to you if something is unclear.

  3. 03

Clarify with your child whether a voluntary test makes sense.

  4. 04

Request the form from the teacher and note the current date.

Deadlines and time

For 2027, the canton names May 19th as the exam and May 26th as the catch-up date. German lasts 90 minutes, mathematics 60 minutes; both parts count equally.

What happens next
  • If the required number of points is not achieved in the exam, the original certificate entitlement remains valid.
  • A later change to a higher move is possible, including at an average of 5.25. Changes are checked after each semester.
